Loading up on a bunch of gear is REALLY fun, but getting fit, whether at the local globo gym or in your beloved garage or basement gym, is the whole point of it all. Thankfully, we love discussing things like workout tips and nutrition essentials as much as we like breaking down the specs of the newest power rack.

In this section, you'll find information on everything from general fitness to more sport-specific interests, most notably CrossFit, Olympic Weightlifting, powerlifting, and rucking.

...because...it's much better when you actually USE all of that equipment than turning it into glorified clothing racks!

ACFT Standards: Can You Hit 500 (or Higher?)

Too many soldiers go in cold, not really knowing how to perform the ACFT events, yet alone how they’re scored. This can lead to test day confusion and less-than-ideal (less than 500!) total scores.

Today, we’re going to cover what you need to know about ACFT standards and scoring. Reviewing this information along will boost your score ~30-50 points. Easy money!

Hang Clean vs Power Clean – 5 Fierce Rounds of Battle!

Hang around a CrossFit or Oly weightlifting gym for a day or two and you’re certain to come across that magical word…

Clean

We’re going to cover two of the main varieties. We’ll finish with a showdown reminiscent of the old pay-per-view days, pitting the hang clean vs power cleans in an epic battle!

Chad 1000X – A Hero’s Legacy Lives On…

Chad 1000x is interesting in that involves elements of CrossFit (the almost comically large rep scheme of the box step-up movement) as well as elements of rucking (the inclusion of the ruck sack and the constant “ascent” that the step-ups create).

1000 plyo box step ups to be precise…

One. Thousand!

Goblet Squat vs Sumo Squat – The Revenge!

There is just something about imagining holding a medieval drinking device or giant Japanese wrestlers that just makes squatting more…appealing.

Our goblet squat vs sumo squat showdown will include a look at the benefits of each exercise as well as instructions on how to perform them. I’m not sure how we’re going to make a sumo wrestler and a metal cup do combat, but if you stick around, I promise we’ll try to come up with something!

CrossFit Open Workouts: The Silver Age (15-18)

What a time to get into CrossFit!

This time, we’re looking at the middle era…the time where CrossFit HQ seemed to really begin to know what they were doing with the Open and where modern legends were born.

If some of these workouts and faces look familiar, I can assure you that you’re not seeing things. What’s old is new again!

Stairmaster vs Treadmill – Battle for the Ages!

A StairMaster may be more effective for building lower-body muscles, but it puts more strain on joints and burns fewer calories.

On the other hand, a treadmill can be slightly cheaper and better for weight loss but is less effective for building muscle strength and for toning.

Time for a battle royale to determine the champ!

CrossFit Open Workouts: The Golden Age (11-14)

Today, we’re going way back in time…back to when anything and everything could happen during the CrossFit Open.

Unfortunately, the things that awe us today would have been incomprehensible by the standards at the time, leaving us with some workouts that look…rather “underwhelming”.

They’re all here; you can be the judge.

CrossFit Open Workouts: The Modern Age (19-23)

From Covid-era modifications to “choose your own adventure”-style workouts, today’s CrossFit Opens definitely provides enough intrigue to keep you on your toes!

Today, we’re going to discuss the CrossFit Open workouts for the 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 calendar years. You will then be required to do all of these workouts within 3 days of finishing the article.

Powerlifting vs Weightlifting – The Final Battle…

Today, we’re going to look at the two in a classic “versus battle” format. Powerlifting vs weightlifting is an oft-requested matchup. With so much going for both of these disciplines, it’s going to be really hard to crown a champion.

In either case, you’re going to be working hard, getting stronger, and ultimately able to shift a lot of weight.
